Leaving

In 38 days, I'll move to Liberty University and leave home. I feel overwhelmed and nervous. But I am also very excited for what is to come. I have talked to friends who are about to leave too, and I think we all share these emotions. It's okay to have these bitter-sweet feelings!!
So here's a list of what to remember when leaving home:
1. Don't forget to take yourself with you.
Don't get to college and stop being who you are. I know college is a new start, a new chapter, filled with people who do not exactly know who you really are yet, but that does not mean it's time to be someone else. God made you to be exactly who you are meant to be, so please don't change that. Maybe you feel as if you need a restart to become a new person. Instead of becoming a new person, just become the best version of who God has made you to be. I promise there are no flaws in His design or plan.
2. Don't forget where you came from.
Hold tight to the memories you have from home. The good and the bad have both shaped who you are today and are a part of your story. Don't hate on your small town. At times, I couldn't have been happier knowing I will be getting out of a small town and get to see what else there is. But I will embrace the mountains that have been my favorite view, remember the many river floats down the Shenandoah, and always love the small town of Luray.
3. Call home.
If not your parents, call back home and talk with someone. Someone is excited for you and all that you are experiencing. Someone misses you like crazy and can't wait to hear your voice. Or if you don't have someone to call at home, and want to hear a familiar voice, I am only a phone call away.
4. Remember Jesus is with you.
If you are scared, He is with you. If you are excited, remember to thank Him for blessing you. Remember He sees your actions, even when those at home can't. Remember there are people who need to know Jesus loves them and you have the ability and mission to tell them that. Remember your value is in Him. Lastly, remember and never forget that Jesus loves you.
For those staying home and starting a new career, those going to community college, and those still in high school, remember each of these things and take them with you in every season.
love and prayers,
Merc
