To the senior in high school.

Updated: Apr 2, 2023

First off, I’m proud of you!! I think I cried every time I heard this during my senior year, but I want to remind you again, I am proud of you. Take a step back and stop worrying about the college choices before you, the late assignments, or what your plans are after graduation. You are finally in your last year of high school, don’t forget to enjoy this and celebrate this.

I think I spent the majority of my senior year in a spazz. I was overwhelmed with assignments, I had just lost two very important people in my life, and I had what felt like thousands of responsibilities. I cried way too much and put way too much pressure on myself. I say this not to complain- because I also had so many moments of joy within that year, but I want you to celebrate this year and the time in your life !! I want you to embrace this time !!

When deciding on a college, your major, and all that comes with that- it can get overwhelming way too fast. I remember seeing the cost of my first semester and started bawling, I claimed I was dropping out of college before I even committed. So if even just that began to stress you out, I want to encourage you with God’s word.

Colossians 1:16-18

“For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.”

Let’s break it down

Basically, here, Paul is writing, while under house arrest, to the church in Colossae. He starts this chapter off so beautifully, by telling the people that since he has heard of them, he has not stopped praying for them. He specifically prays for them to desire and be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.

So, just know that right now, I am praying for each and every one reading this. Praying first and foremost- that you would desire and be filled with the will of God, and seek His wisdom for your life.

We, as humans, simply cannot do anything by ourselves. We will always fail, make the wrong choice, and mess up. But God, He simply never fails or makes the wrong choice. He already knows the goodness of what the next year of your life will look like, where you will go to college, what job you will get, etc.

As mentioned in the verses above, “For in Him all things are created.” God created you and has a plan for you. Please take the pressure off of yourself right now, because it’s not on you to know His plan, it is just to walk into obedience to it!

“He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”

Think on this, pray on this, and be encouraged by this!! God is holding it all together, please celebrate this !! While you may feel as if your life might just falling apart right now, God is holding it together. His word says so, so believe it !!
