A Time to Learn

Updated: Apr 2, 2023

There is a time to learn and a time to lead.

God has placed the sentence above on my heart this week, and it might stick around for a while. Being at a new college, in a new city, with tons of new people is part of being a freshmen, so I definitely expected this change to have impact on my life. However, I am adjusting better than I thought I would! What is taking me time to adjust to the most is the fact that this is a learning season.

Backstory: I love being a leader- doing things and making sure they are done well and helping others do both! I love having a role in each and everything I do. I mean who doesn't like the feeling of security and belonging. I found the feeling of both, security and belonging, in school, clubs, church and the people I built relationships with in each of those settings. However, being thrown into a new environment, you can easily lose the sense of security and belonging. In fact, if you aren't careful, it can be isolating, scary, and just over all not a fun experience. Now more than ever, I have had to place my security and belonging in God, and who He says I am.

1. So like every new freshman or transfer student, I have felt this discomfort. It's normal and I would even say it can be healthy. This feeling makes part of me want to skip to chapter 3 of college, where I have my group, am placed in a leadership role, and can help others. But it also makes part of me excited for what is currently happening! The wise words of my mom - it's all about perspective.

2. I can look at this feeling of discomfort and isolate myself even more. I can stay in my room 24/7 and stare at the walls of my small box of a room, or I can choose to be intentional and go on coffee dates with girls from classes and make new friendships.

3. I will not let these growing pains make me feel weak.

Being here at Liberty: a little bubble on earth that is preparing me for the real world, has shown me it's okay to be the new student. It's a part of the process and next year, I can help the girls struggling with this adjustment. With this education, I am learning how to disciple, lead, and what both of those truly look like according to the Bible. I'm learning this now, so I can lead better later.

You aren't alone- Jesus is walking right beside you. If you are leading, let Him guide you. If you are learning, let Him be the teacher.

So many prayers for you !!
